Moon Phase

So...  I mentioned in my previous post some little tidbit about missing out on Slayers because I thought it was about vampires or something...   and then what do I do?  I go watch a series about vampires. :)   Earlier this week (before I found Slayers, actually), I spent two days of marathoning and watched the entirety of Moon Phase, which is an anime about vampires.  Once I started watching it, I just couldn't stop. The opening sequence is just so cute it's not even funny, and the storyline was just great.  The pan-dropping-on-the-head gag got old pretty fast, though.  Towards the end of the series they started throwing it in at random, just for the sake of having it, even when it didn't have anything to do with what was going on.  I think this series ended too fast though.  They definitely left it wide open for a sequel.  Lots of questions that were raised during the series that they never answered.  I give this a "must watch" rating.

Slayers

So, I just watched the first 6 episodes of Slayers on Hulu last night, and I haven't laughed that hard since Lucky Star. :)  Can't believe I didn't discover this series a long time ago.  For some reason the name always scared me away, I assumed it was something to do with vampires or somesuch and never really looked at the description.  It feels like a late 80s Hanna Barbera cartoon, along the likes of Scooby Doo or JabberJaw, but it's a sassy overconfident sorceress and a nitwit swordsman wandering around getting chased by bad guys, and there's as much humor as there is action.  Definitely a must-watch.

Take the test!

A couple of these surprised me...  I usually think I'm pretty optimistic, and I thought I was more liberal than conservative for example.  And elitist? Hmmm...  Maybe that has to do with my general perception of the general public as being somewhat stupid, but I'd never say that to anyone's face (hey, I'm tolerant! so I guess that's right on).  I'm also surprised that it says I'm more artistic-minded than engineering-minded, considering that I do computer stuff for a living and I'm quite good at it.  And I suck at creating anything that resembles art.  I do appreciate good art though.  The rest of what it says I think is pretty spot on.

School Days Magical Heart

OK, so I admit it, I watched the School Days TV series.  It sounded like a good idea at the time.  Heck, the first several episodes were actually pretty good.  Up until about episode 10 or so, and then it went downhill fast, and the ending was just disgusting.

Then I started hearing rumors about them making an OVA with the same characters but casting them as a magical girl squad.  The idea seemed absolutely ridiculous.  This had to be good.

And it was.  It just came out this last week, and I just watched it.  That had to be the most hilarious thing I've ever seen.  After the whack job they did on the ending of the TV series, they had to do something cheery to make up for it, and this certainly was.  They managed to poke fun at about every gag they used in the TV series, and got in a few references to the game (which I've never played) as well.  I couldn't stop laughing the whole way through it.

Before you all run off to watch it though, beware that it's NSFW or for in front of your kids.  There's a liberal amount of fanservice scattered throughout.

Guess I should post something

So I'm sick of LJ yelling at me about how I haven't posted anything yet, so I suppose I should post something for an introduction. :)

I've been hanging out around here anonymously for a few months mostly because of the decent precure community here (hence the username) to get news about new happenings around the series and stuff going on in the fan community.  I finally got around to signing up because I wanted to start being able to post. :)

As far as anime goes, in addition to precure, I'm into mahou shoujo in general (ojamajo doremi, shugo chara, powerpuff girls z, sailor moon, nanoha, cutey honey, sugar sugar rune, etc.) as well as fantasy (akazukin, haruhi) and general slice-of-life/drama type stuff (tokimeki memorial, clannad, higurashi, umisho, kimiaru, anything with cute characters and a sappy storyline) and game/technology-related (megaman, yamamoto yohko, rocket girls), but generally not military/mecha stuff (although sky girls was pretty cool, I guess that almost counts).  I'm a sucker for good cgi animated music videos of the Vocaloid characters as well (Hatsune Miku, Kagamin Rin/Len, etc).

By day I'm a web developer for a well known Internet software company in the US.
